Weight gain, 8th grade?
Hello. To receive more effective answers, I should like to inform you about my current situation.
In sixth grade, my doctor said I was underweight. Seventh and eight grade, I took up cross country and track. I didn’t notice an increase in my eating. Now I am 5″6 and 130 lbs. The bmi app on my iPod shows me on the chubby person. And I feel horribly fat. My Mom says Muscle weighs more than fat, but I don’t care about facts: I look fat. This is such a stupid question to be asking, but my Mother doesn’t support my other weight loss methods and I don’t know who to ask. How can I loose weight? I’ve eaten nothing but salad and fruits but I remain at the same weight. What can I do?
This question is somewhat difficult to answer since it isn’t clear what you mean by “lose weight”. If you are looking at the bmi and you notice a little more fat than normal then working out is the best way to go (dieting helps, but won’t help much on its own). However, as your mother already said, muscle weighs more than fat, so while you work out and lose the actual ‘fat’ the scale won’t show you losing weight because you will be building muscle at the same time that you’re losing the fat. Your bmi will go down, but the scale won’t tip… it might actually increase a bit, but that’s again only because of the density difference between the two.
On the other hand, if you are happy with your bmi, but you think that you look chubby because your muscles are making you look that way, then the best way to handle that is to ease up on the workout and just focus on the cardio and healthy eating (not necesseraly only veggies, but just lay off the junk food)
