Is it possible to have hit a weight loss plateau after 5 weeks?

I feel like i’ve come to a stop on losing weight and am no where near finished! I’ve lost 10 pounds and have a goal of 20 more but feel like I’ve stopped. I eat 1650 calories a day and work out 6 days a week with 40-60 mins of cardio. If it is possible I’ve hit this, then how do I get out of it?!

I have run into a similar situation. I was running 3 miles 3 to 4 times a week, and watching what I ate. The first bit of weight dropped off quickly, but then seemed to plateau. A trainer from my gym told me this happens often.

He said there was two things to consider. First muscle is heavier than fat. What often happens is excess fat is dropped, but some is converted to muscle. This is when you enter the plateau.

The other thing to recognize is cardio exercise does not reduce fat as well as lighter exercise. Many gym machines actually have a “Fat Burn” mode on them. The suggested rate is generally about 2/3 that of a cardio work out.

You might try shortening your cardio work out and including a fat burn. On a tread mill, this would be a brisk walk. I use 4.5 mph. Or you could take your dog for a walk.
