weight loss on a 40-day water fast?

I am about to embark upon a supervised 40-day water fast. I will drink only water for 40 days (no other food will be consumed). How much weight can I expect to lose?

I am a 20-year old female, 166cm tall (5’5″), and weigh 83 kilos. I have recently been unwell, and over the past 3 months, have gained almost 30 kilos. Please advise me.

Please note that I am aware of dangers etc. I am however, being supervised medically, and it is on the advice of my medical practitioner.

About half a kilo per day at first, tapering to around 250 grams per day after a week or so. You could lose as much as 20 kilos in 40 days if you are also able to be normally active during your fast and if you don’t cheat. Be sure that you are medically supervised. Forty days is a long fast. You will not just lose fat and water with this kind of fast but muscle and connective tissue as well. Forty days is extreme, even with medical supervision unless getting some weight off quickly is necessary for your wellness. The biggest problem is that weight lost so quickly by this method also tends to return quickly because your body, after 40 days of fasting, will undergo some metabolic adjustments to both conserve energy (that slows weight loss) and replace lost body reserves very quickly when nourishment becomes available (that speeds up regaining the weight.)

Losing more slowly and relearning how to eat for life is really much better. It’s also much harder. Good luck with getting your weight back to where you would like for it to be.
