UK – My uncle is getting a gastric band fitted on the NHS…….?

Assuming it works and he loses lots of weight, he’ll likely be left with a fair bit of loose skin. So my question is, would he then be able to get this loose skin removed on the NHS, which came about as a result of the operation they gave him ?

I’m expecting a lot of negative responses to this question……he shouldn’t have put weight on in the first place……why should he get cosmetic surgery on the NHS, etc, etc.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it would be good if anyone knows what the NHS policy is with regards to cosmetic surgery following NHS weight loss surgery.

none of those bad your uncles fat comments from me because i know a fair bit about this.
firstly, providing your uncle is with a good surgeon, he should lose weight unless the band is fitted incorrectly where he can claim compensation. when he loses the weight he will get a fair bit of loose skin. this skin can cause medical problem (rashes, soars etc) that are lethal to his health. if this happens he needs the surgery so it is no longer (to me anyway) regarded cosmetic because it can risk his health. providing the NHS dont slack offf and fund the procedure he will get a second plastic surgery operation to remove te skin. if they decide not to fund it he can appeal against it.
