Can changing a dogs food cause him to lose weight?

Could this also have cause his weight loss? He isn’t skinny, but I can see a slight drop in his weight.

Oh sure! If the dog has the runs then it’s loosing all the nutrition he would other wise be getting from his food.
He may be growing too so he apprears thinner too.
Switching dog food quickly will give any dog the runs. sounds like you did it too quickly. If your feeding the right amounts for his age and weight then he should be just fine. Pups grow so quickly that they look odd sometimes and all it is, is a growth spirt.
Just stick to the food your feeding now and make sure it’s the right amounts for your big boy and he should start to look fine!
