If my dog is diabetic why is she so thin?

So my dog has been peeing a lot and we took her to the vet the other day for a check up. He says she may have diabetes, but we need to do bloodwork or something. The thing is she’s lost a bit of weight. She isn’t as thin as my other dog when he died of cancer, but I can feel her bones pretty well and her waist is thin. She’s still eating and drinking water and she doesn’t appear to be in any pain, so what’s up with the weight loss?
