Weight Loss During Pregnancy Obese Women



Safe to maintain or lose weight during pregnancy?

So I’m a little over 5 weeks pregnant, and I’m also an obese woman. I’m 200 pounds, and 5’4″. I’ve been on a weight loss program since the birth of my son a year ago, and have lost about 20 pounds. I eat healthy (about 1800 calories a day), and exercise about 30 minutes, three times a week (I’d like it to be more, but with my and my husband’s work schedule, it just doesn’t fit right now). I’d like to know if I should continue with this plan, or is the caloric intake just not safe for someone who is pregnant and still breastfeeding a one year old?
If anyone else has ever been obese and pregnant, and has successfully maintained, lost, or only gained a small amount of weight during their pregnancy, your story or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only person you would hurt would be yourself, if you did at all. As long as you eat healthy there is nothing wrong with losing weight! In my last pregnancy I lost about 30lbs I went from 187 to 156. It wasnt on purpose I had really bad morning sickness all through the pregnancy, I also beleive that my body was putting itself through a detox of all the bad food i gave to my body! Dont get me wrong my fat ass gained that weight back in 3 months since I had to have a c-sec. and having a neborn restricts your activity, so your left sitting around the house watching lots of tv and doing that munching thing that we ALL love to do! beware!!!! anyways my daughter came out a perfect 6lbs 12oz! Its easy to loose weight when you know how you gained it.

You can kinda figure out how your body will react to the pregnancy. For instince I gained weight before because I was eating large amounts of carbs late at night. now we all know with morning sickness you eat large amounts of carbs in the morning to fight off the throwing up. So the energy that I got from the carbs in the morning burned off during the day and by night time my body would be too drained to eat much and even if i did eat a bit it would have been used because when your pregnant your constantly workin out!

oh and on another note! you might loose your breastmilk supply. Somthing about hormones and what not. It might be a good idea to look into breastfeeding two children at the same time I’m not too sure about the effects on that and the milk for each baby.
