Weight Loss Exercises For Lupus Patient?

Exercises For Lupus Patients. I am trying to find weight loss exercises for Lupus patients. I was recently diagnosed with SLE. I used to be able to do heavy cardio exercises and weight lifting. Now, sometimes a brisk walk leaves me feeling faint and in pain. I have gained over 20 pounds (prednisone). Even after having 4 children, I didn’t have weight problems. But this past year I started ballooning up. I am trying to find exercises that are comparable to my weight lifting and cardio (kick-boxing ) exercises. So far, no luck. I am at the point of cosmetic surgery. I try to avoid looking at myself in the mirror.

Also, I found out about an 800 calorie cookie diet last year. I am seriously considering trying it out.

Does anyone have any exercises that have worked for you?

Exercise in general is excellent for lupus patients. There’s no particular exercise that we recommend as all lupus patients are very different. So really you should choose the best exercise for you and build up gradually.

You should not follow any ‘gimmick diets’ such as the cookie diet, in general they’re bad for people but in particular for lupus patients they are not recommended. Lupus patients should follow a good, balanced, nutritious diet, if you try to starve yourself your lupus will ‘panic’ and it could cause you to be unwell.

The other thing that we highly discourage is surgery of any kind, if it is not absolutely necessary and cosmetic surgery is in that category. So before trying these extreme measures I would recommend the following:

We highly recommend the ‘low gi diet’ which has been clinically trialled here at St. Thomas’ Hospital. (There’s lots of info on the internet about various ones, I personally tried the South Beach Diet with great results). The doctors were looking for a diet that would work on patients that had gained weight after taking steroids. The diet worked excellently, not only did patients lose weight but their mood elevated and they were far less fatigued.
