Summer Weight Loss Camps For Kids

My mom has issues with me getting a job!? I’m 31 years old!?

I was thinking of applying for a summer job at a weight loss camp for kids. I’m 31 years old and live at home with my mom. Any who I told her about it and she started laying a huge guilt trip on me. About how I would leave her all alone for the summer, how could I do this to her, etc. I said fine, now i feel sad cause i don’t do anything or know anyone. sometimes my mom makes me feel like she wants to keep me all to herself. And I hate it! She throws in comments like you’ll end up hating it and it will be hot and dirty at the camp etc.
I want to apply for this job however now i feel like i cannot. She has done this my entire life. It’s getting to the point where I think that I will never be able to meet anyone or have any friends or anything.
BTW she is miserable and we are trying to move we don’t know where yet, but that is another issue.
How do I cope with her like this. How to I make myself feel better about what I want to do with my life!?

WOW… Your mom has raised you, so I understand how easy it would be to stay in this situation. But honestly…. I don’t see how you do it. She is dragging you down the same black hole she has been living in. I am 19 years old and I moved out of my mothers house when I was 18. My mom is also very miserable, and I tried most of my childhood to make her happy by listening to her as you are doing. However, you can not make anyone else happy, she is the only person that can change her well being, and if she is so miserable with you there then I don’t see how you being there makes the situation better… you can only make yourself happy and you really need to be concerned about that because if you don’t when you are her age what will you do? you will be lost… Tell her that she should get some counsuling or get a dog. You are a grown woman you should have a job a house a husband and kids… or whatever else your heart desires, but as long as she is holding you back, kiss your dreams good bye and when you are 80 you won’t have anything to show for. Don’t you want to fall in love and have a house that you worked hard for yourself?
As far as being concerned with her and wanting to get a job, I would tell her that if she has issues with it then she needs to deal with those issues herself because it is not your responsablity to make her happy because its your responsablity to make you happy. Also tell her she needs to take respnsability for her emotions. You can not make her feel miserable you can not make her feel sad, it doesn’t work that way. She is holding you back and you need to move on and if she doesn’t like it its not your fault, its her fault for relying too much on you…. Ask her if she wants you to be happy for once??? She is being selfish and you just need to be that way for a minute and try not to worry about her she will be ok…
