Should I find a different Doctor?
I just had a visit to my doctor for a check up. In the last 13 months I have lost 135 pounds, going from 275 to 140. He hadn’t seen me for 8 months and had been dealing with me over the phone mostly and tests results sent to him via the internet because of the distance I am from his clinic. The appointment went well and he was very surprise at the changes my body had went through because of the weight loss. As I was leaving he made the following comment:
” Who knew that under all that fat was a pair of dancers legs?” He smiled and winked at me then. My question is was that inappropreate? And should I find another Dr? It surprised and rather floored me because he had always been so professional before.
Ms Crone, I would tend to be a bit more observant during my next visit. However, I don’t see what he said as being inappropriate, as much as i see it as being tactless. But then again WHO among us hasn’t failed to be 100% tactful ALL the time? Haven’t we ALL blurted out someting just a bit less than tactful at SOME point in our lives? The fact that it came from your DOCTOR may have surprised you but STILL a Doctor IS a human being and humans ARE subject to doing dumb things occasionally, even the geniuses and diplomats do dumb things, on occasion.
Once is just a dumb slip, but as the others have pointed out, stay alert and if it IS repeated, then it may be time for a change of doctors. But, just ONE comment and a wink is nothing to worry about, he probably figured that you’d enjoy the compliment accompanied with a harmless little flirt.
