Beta Blockers and Weight Loss?

I am 27 and take Toprol XL, a beta blocker for Mital valve prolapse and chest pain. I need to lose a few pounds, but I am really having a hard time doing it. Could the medicine be the reason for this? I read an article online about blood pressure medicines. Here is a paragraph that stood out to me. Can somebody with some medical knowledge tell me if it’s true? Does that mean I can’t lose weight while on this stuff? UGH.

What they may do, in the populations of patients who must take them, is foster the reluctance to be as active in sports, running, and other activities which require bursts of energy. This can be compensated for by structuring an exercise program which is checked by your physician. You may find that on beta blockers, you need to exercise more to lose weight or even need to do exercise dance, or visit a gymn and use some of their machines.
