I’m sorry that I don’t personally know of any weight loss camps in Florida for kids. However, the internet is wonderful. Here’s a list:

I cannot speak to the effectiveness of either camp, but I do suspect that the Pritikin principles would be very helpful. I personally lost 80 pounds after a long struggle. My original approach was recommended by a physician who told me to perform aerobic exercise five days a week for 50 minutes. I became an incredibly fit fat man. My appetite grew with my activity level, but I continue this level of exercise today.
What worked for me was a whole plant based diet as recommended by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. After taking a class with the Seventh Day Adventists, I learned that I could kill my appetite by eating a high fiber breakfast and lunch that consisted of leafy greens, whole grains (not commercially processed), and legumes (mostly sprouted and cooked beans). This high fiber and high plant protein diet at each meal gave me enough sustenance to allow me to eat just two meals a day at breakfast and lunch. I no longer eat a dinner and I’m still losing a ton of ugly fat weight.
Of course you must also eat whole fruit and colorful vegetables as well as B12 if you are a vegetarian. I shun dairy and other animal based foods. They are unnecessary and can have bad health consequences (Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Joel Fuhrman). I get lots of exercise, sunshine (for D3), and sleep. The motivation for staying on a healthy diet is how good I feel when I avoid excess salt, sugar, fat (even vegetable oils), and commercial food additives. Food allergies are tricky, so that’s why I avoid the hundreds of ingredients added to commercial foods. Sadly, many of our foods, including soy and wheat are now genetically modified, and they don’t need to share this on the label. MSG and aspartame (soda pop) are other ingredients that can cause excess weight gain.
Please be cautious. Most commercial weight loss programs (even medically supervised) fail. It’s important for your family members to take charge of your lifestyle.
