Can I lose weight like this? (details)?

I am taking energy/calorie burning/stress reliever pills (4 per day, which is less than the recommended dosage) and I’m drinking a slim fast (or carnation instant breakfast) for breakfast. But then I eat a normal dinner at night. Lunch is usually an energy bar and either water or diet soda. I’ve only been doing this for a few days, so I was wondering if this routine will get me some weight loss or if I’m wasting my time.

Unless you’re planning on eating this way the rest of your life then you are wasting your time. Those looking to lose weight really need to get out of the mindset that they need to do something weird and radical to lose the weight then go back to their old habits. Your old habits are what got you to where you were unhappy with your weight, so until you permanently change those habits, you will not permanently change your weight.

So find a way that you can eat healthily that you can stick to not just to lose weight but as a lifestyle you can continue with. Start by eating real foods.

Skip the shakes and bars and pills and anything that has a list of ingredients the length of your arm, half of which no one can pronounce. Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, dairy and meat/meat alternatives are the basic food groups and you should be eating foods from each of those every day. You should be getting 3-5 servings of veggies per day – your current plan has maybe 1 serving at dinner time? You’ve made no mention of fruit at all, and I don’t know what you consider a ‘normal’ dinner, but it doesn’t look like you have your food groups covered at all.

So yes, you’re wasting your time until you address your regular eating habits instead of crash dieting. Those who lose weight like (or I should say “if” they lose weight like that) that just put it back on within a few months
