Lap Band for smaller amts of weight loss?
Does anybody know if the Lap Band is OK if I’m only looking to lose about 60 lbs? I guess ONLY wasn’t the best word because 60lbs is actually a lot!!!…but most “success stories” that I read are ppl who lose 100+ lbs… Also, I’ve seen guides that say one may qualify for the procedure if they’re at least 100lbs overweight, then others that say at least 50. Anyone know which is true?
Your surgical eligibility is normally determined by your BMI, which is a function of your height and weight. If your BMI is higher than 40, most surgeons would consider you for a gastric band surgery. An example, if you’re 5’9″, you would need to be at least about 270 to have a 40 BMI.
Most surgeons would also consider you if your BMI was 35-40, if you had other ailments associated with weight, like diabetes, hypertension, joint problems, sleep apnea, etc. That same 5’9″ person would need to weigh about 235 to have a BMI of 35.
These are pretty standard guidelines, but some doctors may be willing to go a bit outside of those parameters, but it would probably not be on an insurance basis.
