Haven’t had my period for 6 months…Help?!?

I got my period when I was 14 and I’m 17 now. It has been semi-regular (I’d get my period at least every month and a half) up until 6 months ago when it just stopped. The two months before it was really light.

I’ve gone from approx. 130 lbs to 118 over the past nine months, and the weight loss was pretty gradual. I also started exercising around the same time that the weight loss started, and became a vegetarian. Still, I eat very healthy and try to get a lot of protein and exercise on average for about 30 minutes 5-6 days a week.

I know weight loss can stop your periods, but shouldn’t it have come back already since I am at a healthy weight (5’4”, 118 lbs)? I’m thinking about going to the doctor, but am worried they will put me on birth control, which I really don’t want because I’m not sexually active and I don’t want to gain weight after totally changing my diet and exercise habits around.

You should definitely see your doctor because it could be serious. I didn’t have my period for 5 months because of stress. Do you have stress? Because that could be that. Just go to the doctor asap.
